Simon is an experienced critical care physiotherapist with 5 years practical use of lung ultrasound to guide, monitor and evaluate chest physiotherapy treatments. As there were limited lung ultrasound training courses for non-medics, Simon developed sonophysio as a way to introduce lung ultrasound to other members of the MDT.

He has undergone a robust competency based training programme covering image acquisition and image interpretation having been taught by an intensive care consultant with Intensive Care Society ultrasound mentor status.

Simon is currently working on research in the use of lung ultrasound as a clinical tool for physiotherapists.

Dr Daniel Kelly is a consultant in anaesthetics and critical care medicine with over 30 years experience. He has been practicing bedside ultrasound in the critically ill for nearly a decade. As a consequence of his expertise in lung ultrasound, he teaches and delivers lectures on the application of lung ultrasound in the critically ill. He is a registered Intensive Care Society (ICS) FICE and CUSIC mentor.

He is also a member of the faculty delivering sessions on ultrasound in the critically ill to advanced ICM trainees in the region. He has a particular interest in taking ultrasound use onto the wards.

Lisa is an critical care physiotherapist with over 8 years experience on general intensive care. She has been using lung ultrasound to inform her clinical reasoning since March 2016.

Dr Jonny Wilkinson MBChB MRCP FRCA FFICM

Dr Jonny Wilkinson trained at the University of Liverpool in the UK and is currently an Intensivist / Anaesthetist at Northampton General Hospital NHS Trust. He supervises 2 ICU fellowships based at the hospital, one of which involves SoMe in medicine and Ultrasound. He has an interest in anything ultrasound, (Cardiac Point of care and Thoracic specifically), and runs regular workshops for peers and trainees alike. Other interests are critical care Research and anything FOAMed! He is the founder of www.criticalcarenorthampton.com and editor in chief of the Oxford Specialist Handbook of Thoracic Anaesthesia.

Simon Gates BSc (Hons) MCSP

Simon is the lead physiotherapist for paediatric critical care at Nottingham Children’s Hospital and AHP representative on the Paediatric Intensive Care Society (PICS) council. His special interests include respiratory monitoring in critical care, lung US and the use of nebulised drugs in the acutely unwell child.
